Special Requests:
Used Truck for Maintenance - Need 1 [Up to You!]-We have a special request from our Facilities Manager...a '92 or newer Chevy or GMC 4-Wheel Drive 3/4 Ton Truck in good running condition. It needs to be a long wheel base. Someone has offered to donate a service bed, if we have a truck for it. This would give us another service truck for the Sanctuary. If you have a vehicle that meets this description and would be interested in donating it to the Sanctuary, please contact Lorenda at (931) 796-6500 ext. 105 or by email at lorenda@elephants.com It would be helpful if you have a photo to email as we want to make sure it is compatible with the service bed. 4-Wheeler Sponsorship Opportunity - Need 9 [$1068 Each]-Yes, it is that time again. This year we have nine 4-wheelers to be sponsored - three for Q Barn, three at the Asia Barn, two for Africa and one for the maintenance shop. Two of our generous sponsors from last year have already expressed their desire to continue their sponsorship for 2010, but others have yet to be provided for. Our 4-wheelers are used in every conceivable way to sustain life and maintain this beautiful 2700 acre habitat. We are able to accomplish just about everything that needs attention riding our 4-wheelers including meals on wheels for the girls three times a day, fence mending, clearing brush, pulling manure carts, dropping hay throughout the day and night, delivering the water wagon, checking fences, and generally keeping track of the girls whereabouts. It takes approximately $89 a month to properly maintain each 4-wheeler - $1,068 a year. That includes oil, oil filters, reusable air cleaner oil, sparkplugs and tire replacement. We pride ourselves on taking good care of our equipment, but the reality is; it just plain takes money. We hope that some of you, we need seven more, will consider "sponsoring" a caregiver's 4-wheeler. If you elect to sponsor a 4-wheeler for a year, you will have the honor of naming said vehicle. It doesn't get much better than that! Please help us by underwriting one of our 4-wheelers for a year, it would be of enormous help to us as we carry out the business of the Sanctuary. You may use the underwriting link above, or contact Lorenda at 931.796.6500 Ext. 105. Two of our 4-wheelers have already been sponsored for 2010. They are "The Neddie" and "Elefanherder". THANK YOU! Wait a minute...here comes our third sponsor with "Shirley Girl"! Our fourth sponsor has come forward with the "African Queen"!! Our fifth sponsor has renewed his sponsorship of "Bubba" for 2010! We have our sixth sponsor with "Sissy's Tire"!
General Facility Needs:
Utility Knives - Need 50 - UNDERWRITTEN! [$3.86 Ea.]-We need to restock the barns with utility knives again, especially with the colder weather around the corner. We are a little specific with these blades because they have a hole in the handle that enables us to loop something through and hang them around the barn. This prevents them from being misplaced, so we’re not having to go to the other end in order to cut hay strings. 50 should keep us stocked for the winter. (This company offers discount pricing when ordering in bulk.) All 50 underwritten September 2010!Security Locks [$1,300.00]-We are replacing security locks throughout the
Sanctuary and along the fences. Some of these are just worn out. We have purchased what we need and could use some help with underwriting, please. $89.00 underwritten August 2010.Monopod - Need 2 - UNDERWRITTEN! [$14.49 Ea.]-If you have seen any of the new videos lately, you may notice there is a slight issue with them sometimes. Although the girls are as endearing as always, and both the habitat and the ladies look great with the new camera, the picture is a little bumpy sometimes. We are purchasing these monopods to help us stabilize our videos, so they can be better enjoyed without feeling slightly sea sick when done watching. They extend to almost six feet, in 3 different sections, allowing for quick adjustment to whatever height is needed. We could use help with the underwriting. http://www.target.com/s?keywords=monopod&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&ref=sr_bx_1_1&x=8&y=12 $35.00 underwritten August 2010.Cool Vest - Need 4 - UNDERWRITTEN! We have purchased these vests so help with underwriting is greatly appreciated. http://store.coolvest.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=RWS&Product_Code=RCVC15DC-A&Category_Code=RCVN

To view this item go to http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/5K677?Pid=search Generators Maintenance Service - Need 3 [$1,100.00 ]-Here is another opportunity to help support the elephants, ensuring their safety and comfort. The Sanctuary has recently signed a maintenance agreement to service and inspect the main generators every 6 months. Although they have been short lived, power interruptions do occur. $1100 per barn is a minimal expense compared to peace of mind that comes with well oiled equipment. When it comes to the comfort of the elephants redundancy is good. All of our barns have two power sources, two water sources and two different heat sources. It's all about keeping the Girls safe and warm. Two have been underwritten and we are working on the third one! Balance remaining is $1,044.98.Bug Repellent Spray, 32 oz. - Ongoing Need [$49.95 Ea.]-The name says it all...it is a blend of natural oils used to repell those pesky insects. We could use four of these, please! We have received two; still need two more. Tractor Supply Co. Gift Cards [Up To You!]-Tractor Supply Co. has come to town!!! We are delighted that TSC has opened a branch right here in Hohenwald. We will be going to them for all kinds of things, from medical supplies to barn needs. Mower, Cub Cadet Commercial Riding - Need 1 [$8,500.00]-Our mower is over 10 years old and quickly becoming a money pit and a colossal waste of time. For every hour of mowing we have an hour of repair. It is time to replace and upgrade to a more durable model!! This one should do the job nicely! We have provided a link for your underwriting pleasure.
You may view this mower at the following link: http://www.cubcadet.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10051_14101_1047469_33803_-1_33803_43279 Balance needed is $7,329.00.Waterers, Automatic - Need 15 [$2450.00 ea]-We have purchased these stainless steel waterers to be installed in all 3 habitats. These are not only much more durable and eliminate the toxins that plastic (the other option) can release, but the Girls have actually shown a preference for them. It creates another source for clean, cold drinking water and lessens the Girls’ dependence on us to deliver portable water to them. Because of the size of their habitat, we need numerous waterers to ensure that there is one within a short distance available to them so they can get a fresh drink whenever they need one. It is a thirsty order, and thanks to the rising cost of steel, these custom designed waterers will cost $2,450 each. Please help us by underwriting the cost and move us closer to our goal of getting the Girls their long-awaited fresh water fountains. $200.00 received August 2010. This completes the underwriting of our fifth waterer and we are started on the next one! $25.00 underwritten August 2010.Wal-Mart Gift Card [Up to You!]-We have a Wal-Mart in Hohenwald and we find we are there constantly picking up not only little odds and ends, but some major items as well! This was very popular with the staff (and a couple of Girls who seemed interested in, um, borrowing a sip or two) last year so we wanted to get going on it right away. The powdered packets store well and do not take up too much room, but will make a huge difference in the well being of our caregivers. A variety of flavors will assure everyone is happy as each Caregiver seems to have their own favorite. Price drops to $1.25 each when purchasing 20 or more. 80 packs donated August 2010. $10.00 underwritten August 2010.Neverkink Marine Hose - Need 10 - UNDERWRITTEN! This 40-45 gallon size should be just about right. ($28 each for 6+ cartons) 4-Wheeler - Need 1 [$7,350.00]-We are in need of a new 4-Wheeler at the Q Barn to accommodate caregivers going in several different directions at the same time. As a result of warmer weather, more outside cleaning is needed. http://www.hondaofcoolsprings.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=03790247X2K13K2009J1I01I15JPMQ1468R0&veh=86977&CatDesc=ATVs&ModelYear=2009 UPDATE: We have purchased this much needed ATV, and all donations toward this expense are greatly appreciated!!

Dietary Supplements and Supplies:
Red Cell - Ongoing Need [$16.49 Ea.]-We have started Shirley grandma on “red cell”. Because of her senior status we want to give her all the help she could use. This supplement contains the blood building ingredients; iron, zinc, copper and cobalt. It also contains 10 essential vitamins and 10 minerals, including the antioxidants Vitamin C and selenium, which can reduce free radical damage. All of our ladies already receive a vitamin and mineral supplement, but just like humans, as they age, their needs change. Not only is this supplement helpful to her, but she really likes the taste. So much that she sometimes skips over her produce to eat her grain first now. This supplement will now become part of her normal supplement routine. Please know that when you order something specific for one of the girls we make every attempt to carry out your wishes, however, due to the time constraints of caring for 15 elephants, we are unable to take photographs commemorating the moment they eat your special treat. [$109.06 Ea]-It is true that preventative medicine can go a long way to insuring our girls long term wellness. That is why all of our elephants receive Cosequin daily. Recent studies indicate that joint deterioration, as well as the accompanied debilitating pain and inflammation, can be prevented if addressed early. By supplementing the elephants with Cosequin before they show signs of a problem we can help to increase their chances of not developing the condition. As the elephants age, their risk of joint inflammation and deterioration increases. By providing Cosequin now, their joints have a better chance of staying healthy. This preventive measure just might stop the onset of the crippling inflammation and joint deterioration that plagues so many elephants kept in captivity. Call Nutramax Labs at 1-800-925-5187, or underwrite this product using the above link.
